What is JMI Wealth?

The JMI Wealth KiwiSaver Scheme is a small KiwiSaver scheme with three funds. It is managed by Smartshares Limited, the same manager behind QuayStreet and SuperLife, with Shaw and Partners as the investment manager.

What can you invest in?

There are three funds:

  • Growth Fund: mostly growth assets, for a timeframe of 7 years or more.
  • Balanced Fund: similar proportions of income and growth assets, for 5 years or more.
  • Conservative Fund: mostly income assets, for 3 years or more.

The funds invest through five partners: Clarity Funds (Shaw and Partners' own range), Devon Funds, Milford, Smartshares and Vanguard. So you get several managers inside each fund, but the menu itself stays at three funds.

Fees

Each fund charges an administration fee plus a management fee:

FundAdministration FeeManagement FeeTotal Fund Charges
Growth Fund0.30% p.a.0.99% p.a.1.29% p.a.
Balanced Fund0.30% p.a.0.93% p.a.1.23% p.a.
Conservative Fund0.30% p.a.0.80% p.a.1.10% p.a.

On top of these, a flat membership fee of $36 a year ($3 a month) comes out of your balance monthly. There are no set-up fees, and no charge for switching funds or changing where future contributions go.

The bottom line

JMI Wealth KiwiSaver Scheme is a small, fixed-menu scheme. It is run by Smartshares and gives you a panel of managers including Milford and Vanguard inside three straightforward funds.
